New District 1 County Commissioner Appointed

Governor Ron DeSantis appointed former Commissioner Rita Pritchett as the Brevard County District 1 Commissioner on July 17, 2026. She fills the vacancy left by Katie Delaney, who resigned in May to relocate out of state. Pritchett will serve until a permanent successor is elected in November.

The District 1 seat is up for election this November, but Ms. Pritchett’s name won’t be on the ballot since the qualifying period has closed. Four Republicans, one Democrat, one Libertarian and one write-in candidate are running for the seat.
